Broken capillaries are small, visible blood vessels that commonly appear around the nose, cheeks and chin. They may look like fine red, pink or purple lines and can occur alone or alongside more general facial redness.
At neoSKiN, we begin by looking at the size, colour, location and pattern of the visible vessels. This helps us distinguish isolated capillaries from broader redness and determine whether a light-based treatment is appropriate.
Visible vessels can be influenced by genetics, cumulative sun exposure, temperature extremes, skin trauma, ageing and conditions associated with facial redness. They may become more noticeable as the skin changes or after repeated flushing.
Cosmetic treatment can reduce the appearance of suitable vessels, but it does not remove the factors that may cause new ones to appear.
Not every red mark is a broken capillary. Your clinician will assess whether the concern appears vascular, whether there is generalised redness and whether any medical review is advisable.
We will also consider your skin tone, recent sun exposure, medication, previous treatment and tendency to pigment or scar. Patch testing may be required before a full treatment.
For suitable clients, BBL BroadBand Light may be recommended. Selected light energy is absorbed by colour within the visible vessel, creating controlled heat. Over time, the treated vessel may become less visible as the body clears it.
The treatment settings and number of sessions depend on the vessel’s size, depth, location and your skin response. Some small vessels may respond quickly, while others require a course. New vessels can develop in the future.
Temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling may occur. A treated vessel can initially look darker or more noticeable before it fades. Your clinician will explain expected recovery and when to resume active skin care.
Sun protection is important before and after light-based treatment. Avoiding excessive heat and following your aftercare instructions can help support recovery.
No. Broken capillaries are individual visible vessels. Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can include flushing, persistent redness and visible vessels. Rosacea requires appropriate medical diagnosis.
Not necessarily. Response depends on the vessel and the skin. Some vessels need more than one session, and future vessels may appear even after successful treatment.
A successfully treated vessel may fade, but treatment cannot prevent other vessels from becoming visible. Sun protection and managing known triggers may help reduce further visible change.
Suitability depends on the device, wavelength, settings and individual skin. A consultation and, where appropriate, patch test are required.

A compromised barrier reacts to almost anything, so the routine is deliberately short and deliberately gentle.
